Meet Our Team

Tom Raines, DDS

Dr. Raines was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa where he attended Drake University for his undergraduate education. He then went to the University of Iowa for his dental education, receiving his DDS in 1968. Two years of service in the United States Air Force followed and developing interests in fly fishing and skiing called him from Iowa to Wyoming where he established his dental practice in Laramie in 1971.

Tom's wife Margie works at UW, but also handles the books for the office. They have grown children and grandchildren living from California to Virginia.

Patty Verley: Hygienist

Patty was born in Oklahoma and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota. She attended the University of South Dakota and graduated in 1976. Patty's first home in Wyoming was Lander, where she married her husband Jim. Jim, Patty, Jason, Elise and Eleanor came to Laramie in 1986. In 1993, Patty began her association with Dr. Raines. They share the same philosophy of patient care and enjoy providing extraordinary dentistry.

Stacy Svalina: Dental Assistant

Stacy was born in Wheatland, Wyoming, and lived in several small towns before returning to Wheatland, then graduating from high school in 1988. Stacy married husband Randy in July 1988. Their one and only child, Caycie, is their pride and joy. After moving to Laramie in 1989, Stacy continued her education with computer business management. After graduation, she began her very successful dental assisting career in 1991. Stacey's vision: To always do the best she can for her Lord, family, friends and coworkers, and feel good about her accomplishments at the end of each day.

Jeanie Mahaffey: Front Office Manager

Our only Laramie native received dental training in Wichita Kansas in 1972 and has worked in general practice as the doctor's assistant and front office manager. Married with two grown sons, Jeanie enjoys family, friends, travel, gardening, cooking and a new interest in showing her Dachshund, Bo, in confirmation shows. Jeanie's vision: Knowing she has done her best to be helpful and trustworthy, honoring each individual with kindness and respect, and at the end of the day, knowing the feeling of accomplishment, contentment and spirit of anticipation for what will come tomorrow.
